How practice is built into learning

Each stage asks more of the learner than the one before. The first two happen inside every course; the last three are where MALYOMAR differs from a lecture-only provider.

Course

Learn the principle, the code clause and why it exists. Live with an instructor who applies it at work.

You can explain the rule.

Exercise

Solve a bounded problem with one right answer: a wall thickness, a support span, a flexibility check.

You can apply the rule.

Workshop

Work in a team on a full unit with incomplete information, deadlines and other disciplines' constraints.

You can combine rules.

Simulation

Face a scenario that reacts to your choices, from a game in the Playground to a reviewed 3D model.

You see the consequence.

Engineering decision

Choose between acceptable options, defend the trade-off to reviewers and sign off the deliverable.

You can be responsible for it.

MALYOMAR program

The eight sessions

The sessions follow the real order of a layout project, from basis of design to model review and handover.

    Advisors in the room

    Process

Holds the P&IDs and process flow data, and rules on what the layout must not change.

    Stress

Sets displacement and nozzle-load limits the routing has to respect.

    Mechanical

Speaks for the equipment: nozzles, loads and maintenance access.

    Structural

Owns the pipe rack and supports, and flags clashes and load requirements.

What you will be able to do

      Who it is for

        Before you join

          What you work with

Courses that prepare you for the workshop

The workshop expects an intermediate piping design course and a working knowledge of pipe stress analysis to ASME B31.3. These courses cover that ground.

See the Plant Layout Engineer path for the recommended order.

            Delivery formats

How you learn is a separate choice from what you learn. The same course can run in more than one format; each session in the schedule states which.

            Live virtual classroom

            Available

Instructor-led sessions online, held live on the learning platform. Most public sessions, including the ASME authorized programs, run this way.

Suits individuals and teams spread across sites or countries.

            In-person classroom

            Available

The instructor and the group in one room, at a training venue for public sessions or at the client's site for corporate ones.

Suits corporate teams and courses with heavy group discussion.

            Workshops

            Available

Applied, practice-oriented sessions built around a project. Participants work in teams and produce deliverables that are reviewed.

Suits engineers who already know the theory and need judgment.

            Engineering simulation

            Growing

Scenarios that respond to the learner's choices. Today this is the Engineer's Playground, with six active games built on ASME B31.3, and model reviews inside workshops.

            Open the Engineer's Playground

            Webinars and seminars

            Occasional

Short technical sessions on one topic, usually one to two hours and often free. A way to meet an instructor before committing to a course.

            See knowledge events

            Digital and on-demand

            Limited

Material you can use at any time. At present that means Engineer's Playbook episodes and webinar recordings. Courses are not offered as self-paced unless their page says so.
